Domaine St Martin Wine
The domaine consists of 21 hectares with vineyards in Marsannay, Fixin and the Grand Crus of Bonnes- Mares and Clos de Beze. When Patrick Lesec first started working with this domaine, he bought a couple of barrels of the Fixin Hervelets and oversaw the elevage (in his custom made new oak casks) and bottling (without fining or filtration). To differentiate his wines from the domaine’s own cuvees, it was decided that a new name be created – Domaine St. Martin. The name comes from the ‘rue St Martin’ on which the domaine is situated and because St. Martin is the patron saint of wine. True to form the St. Martin cuvees swiftly gained an elite reputation and today Patrick produces several different wines from the same domaine. He continues to use a greater percentage of new oak on his personal cuvees, always using custom made barrels to ensure they meet with his exacting standards. Racking and bottling are always performed by hand and fining and filtration avoided. Clos de Beze and Bonnes Mares are always two of my favourite Grand Crus and these are exceedingly fine examples with a perfect balance between concentration and finesse.
