Domaine Paul et Gabriel Jouard Wine
Paul Jouard represents the sixth generation of his family to run the domaine, which now comprises some 10.5 hectares.
Entering the pristine, purpose-built winery of Paul Jouard with its towering rows of gleaming stainless steel vats, one might expect to taste a clinically clean selection, devoid of personality, but nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed, far from being bland, these wines are incredibly voluptuous and concentrated. The wines aren’t vinified in stainless steel, but most of the wines are resting here post blending, by the time of my annual visit. However, intense and exuberant they may be, but they are beautifully balanced and not at all heavy or over-oaked, ensuring there is always a fabulous lift and life at the end of the palate.
The Bourgogne Blanc is certainly no wall flower. Brimming with ripe, mouth-watering fruits, this is a really flamboyant wine with attractive mineral notes taming the richness and balanced by a zesty, citrus acidity.
The Chassagne Blanc Village has a wonderful purity and minerality. Once again the balance between the ripe fruit and racy acidity is superb. This village wine comes from vines of 15 – 20 years of age and sees around 30% new oak. The more concentrated 1er Cru, Les Baudines, comes from 40 year old vines. Like the village wine the Les Baudines is also very mineral in character but with more intensity and complexity. This cru is closest to Santenay. The Premier Cru Les Vide-Bourses, which is located on the Puligny side of the appellation is. produced from 40-45 year old vines and displays a more floral and softly honeyed character with amazing intensity, harmony and finesse.

A lovely, rich, toasty, buttery nose. Quiet herbaceous with a good balancing citrus lemon/ grapefruit edge and a slight hint of toffee. Dry, low-med acidity. The palate mirrors the nose with an excellent concentration of buttery chardonnay fruit balanced by th... [more details]
