Alemany I Corrio Wine
The property is run by the enormously talented Irene Alemany, whose wine Sot Lefriec is made from carefully selected old vines grown in a backwater of the Penedes. In every way Sot Lefriec is a 'garage wine'. Around 300 cases are made in a temperature-controlled environment where Irene and her husband attend to every detail. In 2000 the yields were lower than in 1999, the grapes having higher concentration of acidity, sugars and tannins. Fermentation takes place with only wild yeast and ageing was carried out in a mixture of new and one-year French oak (of the highest quality) for 23 months (three months longer than the 1999). As before the 2000 wine was neither fined nor filtered and only racked once when the wines were under reduction.
The blend for the 2000 is 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Carinyena. Sot Lefriec is emerging as a wine of true 'First Growth' potential and with Spain as one of the countries finest wines. Irene is dedicated to producing the finest wine possible from her modest inheritance.
