If there is a harder working team in the village, I have yet to find them. Marie Giraud, along with her marathon running, mountain climbing brother, Francois, never stop. Like Julien Barrot, they took over from their father, Pierre, in 2003. Marie makes the wines, whilst Francois tends to the vineyards, (when he is not running somewhere). Their vineyards are situated to the south of the village in and around the ancient vineyard of Gallimardes. Nothing is left to chance here. A table de trie is used to sort the grapes at harvest and strict selections take place in the winery. Stylistically, the wines here strike a truly harmonious balance between wonderful southernly richness, but also, they are remarkably delicate and silky. Dense and supple fruit flows easily across the palate in these full-bodied, silky wines that show great richness, depth, and length, without excess weight. Particularly in the sensational, Les Grenache de Pierre, produced from 100% grenache vines approaching 100 years of age. This wine exhibits cherry and raspberry notes with hints of citrus zest and briny notes on the long, silky, almost ethereal finish.
