Chris Goodrum (Gauntleys)

Banana skins and custard; soft barley but drier and dustier than any other Knappogue nose. Early mouth watering barley fades; a sugary sheen is quickly usurped by an impatient oaky bitterness. Dry-ish and bitter with a barley residue; some ultra light spices. A charming malt showing old Bushmills in very unusual colours. Lacking the clarity and complexity of the first Knappogues simply because they were designed to extol the virtues of young (8 year old) malt. Naturally, extra oak has crept in here, forcing out – as it must – the sharpness and vitality of the barley. (JM)
