Rouvre St. Leger 2010
I first came across Rouvre St. Leger at the end of a very long and tiring day at Vinisud. Having tasted dozens and dozens of wines of varying qualities, the glorious precision, beautifully harmonious balance and undeniable charm of these wines were immediately uplifting and I instantly knew that Adrien Borelly was somebody we had to work with.
Seeing the potential of the family’s vineyards, the young Adrien persuaded his father to let him work with a small, but carefully selected parcel of vines to create his own red and white Cotes du Rhone. Working with his friend and neighbour Didier Dumont under the guidance of the talented and influential oenologist, Philippe Cambie, Adrien has shown that he was absolutely right to have faith in his own convictions.
Both the red and the white, are not just ‘very good’ examples of Cotes du Rhone, they are exceptional! The white wine is produced form 70% Viognier and 30% Roussanne, with 25% vinified and matured in barrique for some 4 months. The red is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah with a part spending 12 months in barrique. The exquisite balance and flawless quality of both these wines is sensational.
Over the past year we have had the pleasure of visiting Domaine Rouvre St. Leger on a number of occasions . Tucked away down a long track, hidden amongst vines and olive trees, the bohemian styled home and warm hospitality of the Borelly family is as enchanting as the wines Adrien produces. I have fond memories of whiling away an evening, sat with the family in the walled courtyard, enjoying these stunning wines, with a spontaneous supper of local hams, ripe cheeses, homemade bread and tapenade, with the banter flowing in disjointed French, English and sign language until the early hours! Whilst we are sadly unable to bottle this experience, we can provide the opportunity for you to discover some of the most exciting wines that the Cotes du Rhone has to offer.

Fabulous purity and intensity on the palate too with layers of velvety black and red berry fruits and exotic but subtle spice. Good structure of healthy tannins but supple and ripe, nothing dry or hard. Like the white, the red has a seamless quality to it with great length and real finesse. [more details]
